sénatThe Sénat is the upper house of the French parliament and is housed in the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris. One-third of its members, "sénateurs" are elected for a nine-year term every three years by an electoral college consisting of the "députés" and other elected representatives. The Sénat has a wide range of powers but can be overridden by the lower house, the "Assemblée nationale" in case of dispute.
